The City’s administrative departments have conducted joint inspections at various restaurants, sweet shops, etc. prior to the festival of Raksha Bandhan tomorrow on 2nd August.
The Departments of Provision (Rasad), Food Safety and Weights and Measures did a joint inspection at half a dozen sweet shops and restaurants at Delhi Gate area of the city and lodged a case against one shop for allegedly inappropriate weighing and warned others.
“Shudh ke Liye Yudh” meaning War for Purity is a government initiative to check that the food products sold in the market should be prepared and sold under the set standards of the department.
According to Bhagwan Das, Weights and Measures officer, a sweet shop, Jai Bhole Mishtan has been caught for including the weight of a sweet box of 40g along with the weight of the eatables, which is a malpractice.
Food samples were taken for test from other sweet shops and a restaurant was also inspected to check on the quality of food products used in preparing the dishes.
B.R Bhati, Enforcement Officer from Department of Provision; Anil Bhardwaj, Food Safety Officer were also there in the unannounced inspection drive.
