Udaipur, July 31, 2025 -  After the recent incident in Jhalawar district where the roof of a school collapsed, the Udaipur district administration has become alert. As a result, the process of identifying and demolishing dilapidated school buildings in the district has begun. In the first phase, two dilapidated rooms of the Government Senior Secondary School in Kadmal village were demolished on Tuesday July 29.

Through the Education Department, the administration first identified the most dilapidated school buildings across the district. Following that, a systematic process to demolish them has been initiated to prevent any potential accidents.

The two rooms that were demolished at Kadmal school had been closed for a long time. Similar weak and dilapidated rooms have also been identified in nearby government schools, which will soon be demolished as well. Across the district, more than 100 such school buildings have been marked, some of which have two or more rooms in a dilapidated condition.

District Collector Namit Mehta held an important meeting on Tuesday regarding this matter, in which he issued instructions to departmental officials concerning the condition of these buildings. The Collector has directed that all government buildings, roads, culverts, electric poles, Anganwadi centres and hospitals in the district be inspected immediately and a report be submitted by August 5.

Under this directive, special committees have been formed at the sub-division and gram panchayat levels which include technical experts. These committees have been tasked with surveying their respective areas, identifying dangerous structures and taking immediate action.

The survey work began on Tuesday under the guidance of the District Collector. Sub-divisional officers, tehsildars, deputy tehsildars, development officers and other departmental officials are now out in the field inspecting schools, Anganwadi centres, hospitals and other government buildings.

The administration's objective is to ensure public safety by removing dilapidated structures before any untoward incident occurs.
