City Administration will now take steps to motivate the farmers of Udaipur, to maximize the vegetable farming on their farming lands considering the increasing demand of vegetables.

The Administration took this decision on the basis of availability of land and water resources in the region.

“Since climatic conditions and water availability are favorable for cultivating vegetables as compared to crops, then why should not the farmers look at maximizing their farming output in the form of Vegetables instead of Crops”, said District Collector.

More than 10000 farmers have been selected by the administration, to whom Seed Bags will be distributed.  2000 farmers among the selected have already received these bags.

The concept of growing vegetables on a large scale came to light during the Collector’s official visit at Sabarkhanta, Gujarat.

He called a meeting of the concerned departments and a team of officials was sent to Gujarat in order to learn more about the crop pattern.

On the secondary level, Administration is also planning to provide a local selling market to the farmers who can sell their vegetables directly to customers and due to this the trend of Mediators will also end gradually, which will definitely benefit the farmers financially, said the Collector, Ashtosh Pednekar.

Bitter Gourd, Bell Pepper, Bottle Gourd, Carrot, Spinach, Tomato, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brinjal, Chilli, etc. are few of the vegetables to be focused on for the coming year, as selected by the administrative officers.

In addition, seed bags containing good quality seeds will also be distributed among students of  Government schools and they will be motivated to grow the vegetables within their school compound; this will generate their interest towards agriculture and they will also learn its importance.
