Rescue Divers demand Equipment and Employment

The promise of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to appoint 10 professional rescue divers in Udaipur seems to be remained at a halt, as the city of lakes is still dependent on the traditional divers, who always join rescue and search operations without safety equipment and zero remuneration.

A group of divers, who are traditionally trained by their elders, met Municipal Commissioner Satyanarayan Acharya and demanded required safety gadgets and permanent job as divers.

With the number of water bodies in the city, cases of drowning are commonly reported and every time when someone drowns in the lake, divers are called to search or rescue the victim.

Acharya assuring the group said that divers are essential for the city and a letter to State government will be written appealing to take positive steps regarding this and jobs will be allotted to the divers.

In 2010, UT had covered the story of divers of the city and their problems for survival.
