Students of the Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur protested and forcedly stopped the construction work going on at the J.C Boss Boy’s Hostel in the Police line area at Udaipur.
Alleging use of poor quality construction material, the students demanded that the work of renovation and construction should be completed within the given deadlines and while using the best of material.
As per sources, nearly 50 students from various Indian states, viz. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana are staying at the J.C Bose Hostel which has a capacity of accommodating more than a hundred students.
According to the students living in the hostel, they have complaints regarding the facilities provided by the hostel authorities. They say that the supply of electricity and water has been irregular for a long time now.
Further, they allege that the renovation work has been dragging on for a long time and the quality of the construction material being used is questionable.
“We have presented memorandums to the Vice Chancellor S.S. Chahal regarding the issue and requested him to take some positive steps towards it”, says Mahendra Yadav, General Secretary, NSUI.
“If they can’t do anything appropriate, then we could also go for a strike. We would, however, be observing a yagya tomorrow on this issue”, Mahendra told UT.
On talking to a few students of the hostel, UT was informed that the I.C.A.R (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) had undertaken the construction work of the hostel.
The students also say that the authorities in-charge of the management of the hostel had committed that the work would be completed within a span of 6 months, but even after 8 months from the commencement of the task, it does not seem to be anywhere near completion.
Students also accused that the construction material being used was of very low quality as the layers of cement had started to break off from the walls of the newly constructed rooms. They argued that instead of cement, more of sand was being used.
UT was unable to meet the Chief Warden Dr. Siddique to take his comments on the allegations.
