Today, on the occasion of International Mother Language Day, a Rajasthani Language Committee has begun a protest movement to get constitutional recognition for Rajasthani in the country.
The members of ‘Akhil Bhartiya Rajasthani Bhasha Sangarsh Samiti’ presented a memorandum in the name of the Prime Minister to the local authority demanding respectable position for Rajasthani language.
“Rajasthani was the state language of Malwa, Rajasthan and Umarkot (in Pakistan) during the pre-Independence era,” said the members of the committee.
The memorandum also explains how Rajasthan Board Secondary Education, Rajasthan Colleges and Universities are using Rajasthani language as a medium of studies and researches.
To justify their demand they have also added that many programs on All India Radio (Akashwani), National television channel (Doordarshan) and many other T.V channels are broadcasting films and dramas in Rajasthani which confirm the importance of the language in the present time.
Dr. Rajendra Barhat, state official of the committee said, “American Library of Congress has kept confined the 75 minutes voice recording of Padmshree Kanhiyalal Sethiya in Rajasthani language, considering it to be one of the 13th prosperous languages of the world.”
Dr. Barhat also told that in Pakistan, a grammar course book is named as ‘Rajasthani Kayda’ which is part of syllabus.
They also highlighted that Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan had also presented a proposal to the Central Government to add Rajasthani language in 8th list of constitution on 25th August 2003 which has not been considered yet.
