After 21 days of strong and continuous demonstrations against the imposed duty on Gold, the nationwide strike of jewelers ended last night of 6th April. Jewelers in all parts of the country got back to work from today.

After 21 days of strong and continuous demonstrations against the imposed duty on Gold, the nationwide strike of jewelers ended last night of 6th April. Jewelers in all parts of the country got back to work from today.

Inder Singh Mehta, Patron, Sarafa Association informed, “after 21 days of our protest against the Excise and Custom Duty, we opened our shops on the assurance given by the Finance Minister and Sonia Gandhi, President of the Indian National Congress that in the 2nd session of Lok Sabha that will be held from 24th April to 11th May, the issue of the Excise and Custom Duty will be discussed and a positive decision will be taken”.

He also said that if no decision is taken till 11th May, then the members of the association will resume the strike, and this time there would be violent demonstrations.
