The case stands as a testament to advanced neonatal care and the dedication of the medical team at Ananta Hospital
Rajsamand, Feb 12, 2026: Doctors at the Ananta Medical College and Hospital in Rajsamand have successfully treated a new-born after 140 days of intensive care. The weight of the infant at birth was 570 gm and when the healthy baby was discharged, the weight was 1,400gm. This notable feat of medical temperament and perseverance ensured that the baby was in healthy condition on discharge and wsa also ablt to breastfee.
As briefed by Dr. Nitin Sharma, Executive Director of Ananta, the newborn was brought to the hospital’s emergency department on September 23, 2025, just three days after birth. Upon examination by neonatologist Dr. Pranay Trivedi and pediatrician Dr. Himanshu Advani, the medical team was astonished to find that the baby weighed only 570 grams. The infant, born to Meena Lohar at just 25 weeks of pregnancy, was classified as an extremely premature baby.
The team of doctors evaluated the situation to be near critical, and accordingly placed the infant on ventilator in the Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU). A day later, the baby was shifted under Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV). Since it was a preterm delivery with very low birth weight, antibiotics were administered promptly.
Over the weeks that followed, the infant required advanced respiratory support, including High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) therapy for 25 to 30 days. After two weeks, an eye examination conducted. This revealed incomplete retinal development, medically termed Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). The hospital's opthalmologist treated the baby with a Bevacizumab injection.
The infant also developed “Anemia of Prematurity” requiring 5-6 blood transfusions. Additionally, the baby suffered from weak bones and later developed Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) due to prolonged oxygen dependency—both of which, were treated with continuous medical care and monitoring.
The infant's condition, after 140 days of constant supervision in the NICU, has improved significantly. the baby now weighs approximately 1,400 grams, is stable, healthy, and successfully breastfeeding.
According to the doctors, this is the first case in the Udaipur division involving such an extremely low birth-weight baby surviving after such an extended hospital stay.
The team of doctors behind this succesful supervision included Dr. Pranay Trivedi, Dr. Himanshu Advani, Dr. Bhavna Vaishnav, Head of Department Dr. Prasoon Bhattacharya, and, of course, the entire neonatal care team.
The case stands as a testament to advanced neonatal care and the dedication of the medical team at Ananta Hospital.
