8-year-old Laxmi who is physically disabled by birth received prosthetic hand today after a local NGO came forward to help the child. The hand was made by ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India).

“Now Laxmi can hold things, can do her daily chores, studies etc,” said Narottam Pandya, of Ashray Seva Sansthan, a local NGO who helped Laxmi to get the hand.

The hand was fitted in a small function organized today at Genius Public School, Udaipur in the presence of her parents.

Hailing from Village Bansalia, some 50km from Udaipur, Laxmi was struggling for everything in life, she used to be at home every time. Being from a poor family her parents weren’t able to afford to give her medical treatment.

Laxmi doesn’t have hands since birth, but her disability could not lower her zeal for learning and going to school. Instead of hands, she used to write with her foot. After attaching the prosthetic hands, Laxmi can hold pen easily.

Narottam Pandya, of Ashray Seva Sansthan said that, it took them 4-5 months to get the hand. However, they could not make another hand because of technical problem but Pandya hope that the new hand will somewhat ease Laxmi’s life.
