SRK Wins National Award... After 33 Years
Aug 2, 2025 - Bollywood's Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) has finally received the first National Award of his career. He was honoured for the film Jawan at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony. However, this honour has started a new debate on social media. Many people are asking why SRK did not receive a National Award for so many years, even though he has given many memorable and influential films in the past, which are now considered cult classics.
It is impossible to talk about SRK's acting without mentioning Swades. The sensitivity and simplicity he showed in the role of an NRI scientist in this film still lives in the hearts of the audience. This is why many users on social media are upset that a film like Swades was ignored, while Jawan was given the National Award.
Commenting on the matter, one user wrote, “The system that ignored Swades but honoured Jawan needs introspection.”
Another user said, “SRK should have got the National Award for Swades. Jawan is just a film full of stardom.”
One mentioned four of his films – My Name is Khan, Chak De India, Devdas and Swades saying that SRK should have got the National Award for all four.
Another user wrote, “I was waiting for a long time, but finally it happened! Shah Rukh is getting his first National Award for Jawan. I can’t believe he never got it for Swades, Chak De India, or My Name is Khan, but I am happy he is getting this recognition now.”
SRK has been active in the film industry for 33 years. In this time, he has won the hearts of millions with films like Chak De India, My Name is Khan, Devdas, Dear Zindagi and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In such a case, it is natural to ask why he had to wait so many years for a National Award.
