Security Manager of Hindustan Zinc’s Zawar Mines Plant lodged a complaint against suspected accused for mixing inferior quality coal with the higher grade (imported) coal, after it reached the Navlakha Port Gujarat and was transported to Zawar Mines.

Police has arrested two truck drivers for their alleged involvement and also started investigations against the transport company and other accused.

The complainant, Kuldeep Singh informed Police that the consignment of imported coal reaches the Gujarat Port and from there it is transported to HZLs Zawar Mines Plant.

A transport company, United Shippers Limited is responsible for transporting coal to the plant as it is, but recently during the inspection, the material received at Zawar Mines was found to be of inferior quality.  This regular low quality material being received at the plant raised doubts and investigations were started.

Subsequent to the investigations, two truck drivers were rounded up and during interrogation they accepted mixing inferior coal with the imported coal, before the material was handed over at the HZL plant.

Driver Mahantraj informed police that a whole nexus is working on this and the trucks are halted between Gujarat Port and Zawar Mines, where inferior quality coal replaces part of the original consignment.  The entire activity takes place at Mehsana in Gujarat, under a mediator identified as Sora.

Police are now investigating more about the nexus and how many more people are involved in this scam.
