Amid the cricket fever across the country, two bookies were arrested today by Hiran Magri police who were found running a cricket betting racket at Samta Nagar, Sector 3. The accused duo was arrested and interrogated to gain information about other people involved.

Amid the cricket fever across the country, two bookies were arrested today by Hiran Magri police who were found running a cricket betting racket at Samta Nagar, Sector 3. The accused duo was arrested and interrogated to gain information about other people involved.

CI Chagan Rajpurohit informed that the team reacted upon a tip off from sources about the cricket betting racket carried out at a house in Samta Nagar. An undercover cop disguised as a courier boy reached the scene and after confirming the activities of both the rookies, informed the team later.

2 Bookies arrested in Cricket Betting racket

The team raided the place and arrested both accused, identified as Dhiraj Mehta, owner of the house and Gaurav Porwal of Bada Bazar. They were found with 40 mobile phones, 2 laptops and 1 LCD TV in the room. They had booked an amount of Rs. 1.2 Crore but no cash was found in the room. All the things were confiscated and the duo arrested.

During the initial investigation it was found that it was an inter-state racket of betting on the cricket game as they were dealing with customers from Surat, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and other cities.

The accused revealed that they had kept one mobile phone for every 10 customers and received the booking line from Delhi, added CI.
