A general and routine argument turned into bloody assault yesterday at Sevashram Chauraha when two traffic cops physically assaulted a motorcyclist and his brother over the matter of issuing Challan (Penalty). Moreover, the cops also allegedly provoked a group of youth to beat the victims.

The victim Govind Shankar, a cameraman in a news channel and his brother received multiple injuries after being thrashed by the cops Ganpatlal and Mansingh. S.P Ajaypal Lamba has suspended both police officers on duty and ordered inquiry into the matter.

According to sources, a motorcyclist Madan was passing through Sevashram when he was stopped by the accused policemen for not having number on his bike. Madan told policemen that his bike is new and the numbers are yet to be issued. When the cops denied this justification, Madan called his brother Govind for help.

Both Govind and Madan tried to convince cops but the talk turned into an argument and subsequently altercation.

As per sources, the accused policemen provoked a group of young men to beat the Madan and Govind. Both victims received fractures and cuts in the attack and a report was lodged against the policemen at Bhopalpura Police Station.

The locals of the area intervened and rescued both victims.  Seeing a large number of people gathering, the accused fled away from the place.
