4 Arrested for alleged attempt-to-attack businessman

Four people were detained by Bhopalpura police today evening in connection with an alleged extortion and threat to a city businessman.

 

UPDATE: Accused were presented in court and have been sent on PC remand for 7 days.

A revolver, 2 live bullets and a knife has been seized by police. The offense is assumed to be committed under the directions of wanted criminal Azam Khan.

The arrest came today evening following the complaint lodged by Pramod Chhaparwal, owner of Hotel Saheli Palace, few days ago. Chhaparwal had lodged a complaint at Hathipol Police Station of threatening and extortion calls.

Acting upon the information provided by the hotel owner, today undercover cops were deployed on the scene, near the Hotel Saheli Palace, where 5 people arrived on 2 motorbikes. Policemen dressed in civil clothes, got the indication of the suspects arriving near hotel Saheli palace; they were nabbed immediately and brought to Bhopalpura Police Station.

According to Ad. S. P. Tejraj Singh, the arrested accused are Suhail Khan (20), Shoib (24), Azam (19), Raja alias Nafis (20), while one unidentified person fled from the spot.

In the initial interrogation, Police has informed that both Nafis and Suhail have cases of theft and assault lodged against them in Sukher and Surajpol Police stations.

The operation was conducted jointly by C. I.s of Bhopalpura, Pratapnagar and Hathipol, under the directions of DY.S.P.

In the recent past, planned criminal activities are in rise, especially targeting city’s high profile businessmen. Two different incidents of firing at Motilal Dangi and Sanjay Bhandari indicate the criminal gangs are getting re-active.
