A 42 year old hotelier and his wife committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance for unknown reasons at their house at Gogunda on Wednesday, police said.

The mishap was discovered by victim’s father in the afternoon when he returned to his house. He found both victims lying in an unconscious state after which he informed his elder son who drove the victims to a private hospital of Udaipur. Both the victims were declared dead and their bodies were shifted to mortuary for postmortem, police informed.

The victim identified as Mahipal Singh Jhala and his spouse Madhu Kunwar (38) were married since 18 years and were parents of two kids. Mahipal ran a hotel at Gogunda highway whereas his wife was the Sarpanch of the Chatiyakedi Panchayat of Gogunda village, informed by Gopal Singh Jhala elder brother of the victim.

The mishap occurred on Wednesday morning when victim’s father Laxman Singh went out of the house for some work and the couple was alone. When Singh returned to his house at around 11.30 AM he found the victims lying on the ground, Gopal Singh added.
