A murder convict, who was on a run for past three months from serving life term in Udaipur’s Central Jail, finally got nabbed today from Ahmadabad, Gujarat while he was about to board a bus to Pune.
Laxman Meghwal was in Jail since 2004 and on the night of August 19, 2012 he managed to flee from police custody from MB Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. The constables on duty were later suspended due to alleged negligence.
After he escaped, police received information about Meghwal that he was seen at Udiapol Bus Stand. But, by the time police reached the spot, he already left in an Ahmadabad bound bus. Udaipur police rushed to Ahmedabad and after massive search, Laxman was caught from a bus stand where he was about to take a bus to Pune.
Today, police took him back to Udaipur and presented him before Hathipol Police Station. In initial interrogation, he revealed that he was having an affair with a girl and just because of that he escaped from police custody.
He also told police that when he came out of the jail on pay roll, he met a girl Suman (name changed), resident of Mullatalai, and their friendship started.
Laxman said that when he ran away from hospital on 19-20 Aug and went to Ahmedabad, he contacted Suman there, and after that, both of them stayed at different places including Pune, Chennai, Jodhpur, Triupati etc.
Laxman informed the police that Suman brought Rs. 40000 with her, which was used for their expenses.
