ACB registers bribery case against Station Head Officer

Anti Corruption Bureau of Udaipur registered a case against the Station Head Officer of Panwara Police Station of the district on Saturday under sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act after verifying the complaint of demanding bribe registered against him by a Liquor shop owner.

Anti Corruption Bureau of Udaipur registered a case against the Station Head Officer of Panwara Police Station of the district on Saturday under sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act after verifying the complaint of demanding bribe registered against him by a Liquor shop owner.

Bureau received the complaint against the accused on 5th November 2014 from the victim Liquor shop owner Manohar Lal and his aid Premchand Gayri who run their shop at Birothi village. The complainants informed the bureau that the SHO of Panarwa police station demanded a monthly amount against permitting them to run their shop in his police station circle.

Additional SP ACB Brijesh Soni informed that the accused SHO Shiv Singh already took an amount of Rs. 20,000 from the victim for the months of April- July 2014 and further demanded Rs. 14,000 for the months of August to November.

On receiving the complaint from the victim ACB team started verifying it, but during the telephonic conversation the accused postponed the meeting for later. After this, the accused called the the victim several times for the bribe amount but never met. On 8th November during the verification, the accused accepted taking a bribe amount of Rs.20,000 previously and also accepted demanding the rest of amount Rs.14,000.

On the basis of the facts the Bureau team registered a case against the accused Station Head Officer of Panarwa police station.

To verify the complaint victim Manohar Lal of Dhabra village and his aid Premchand were sent to the accused residential quarter situated at the Police Station compound to finalize the deal where the amount was negotiated to Rs. 3500 per month from Rs 4000, informed AdSP Soni.

Soni also added that the Liquor shop was registered on Arjun Lal’s name who is the brother of the victim and run by one of his associate Premchand Gayri. The accused SHO at first demanded an amount of Rs. 4000 per month which was later negotiated to Rs.3500.

During the investigation of the matter it came in light that the accused had joined the police department as a constable in 1979 and became the Sub Inspector in July 2013. The case against him has been registered and further investigation has been started, said AdSP Soni.
