Assistant Engineer of AVVNL caught with Rs.3.50 Lac Bribe

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Udaipur arrested an Assistant Engineer of Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL) red-handed while taking the bribe of Rs.3.50 Lac.

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Udaipur arrested an Assistant Engineer of Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL) red-handed while taking the bribe of Rs.3.50 Lac.

The accused Laxman Lilani (56) resident of Kailash Nagar allegedly took the bribe in return of allotting 24 hours of electricity to a local businessman who owns a factory of Zircon at Dangiyon ka Guda, near BSF Camp.

Rajendra Prasad Goyal, Additional S.P (ACB) informed that, the victim Jaldeep Swami, owner of Dadu Zircons approached ACB and lodged complaint against the A.En who demanded Rs.7 Lac rupees for transferring his electricity line to three-phase 24 hours connection.

Swami told ACB that first he demanded Rs.1 Lac for receipt and Rs.6 Lac for bribe. Swami also informed that while demanding the money, the accused told him that the bribe money will be distributed among several officers of department.

Receiving information, ACB started verification process and laid the trap to catch the accused. After series of negotiation, the deal was finalized to Rs.3.50 Lac.

Laxman Lilani asked Jaldeep Swami to pay the amount at a Petrol Pump at Sukher. Swami did as per the instruction given by Lilani and handed over the money. The ACB officials immediately raided the petrol pump and detained Lilani. Upon checking, the bribe amount was recovered.

AD.S.P Rajendra Prasad Goyal informed that two more officials of AVVNL including a junior engineer and executive engineer were involved in the bribe conspiracy. Goyal said, “We have identified them and the process to arrest them has started.”

Laxman Lilani was also previously accused for bribery in 2000. He was arrested with Rs.1500 bribe for giving electricity connection.

The team of ACB included Constables Munir Khan, Santosh Kumar, Babulal, Akhtar Khan, Miss Sanju, Himmat Singh, Jitendra Sanadhya, Vikram Singh, Omkar Singh, Mohan Singh, Harishchandra (CI) and Rajiv Josji (DYSP).
