ATM Card Fraud: Rs.2.45 Lac stolen from Police Constable’s Account

A police constable has lodged complaint against an unknown person for withdrawing Rs.2.45 Lacs by allegedly exchanging ATM card.

The victim, Gebilal Meena, police constable at Panarva Police Station under Pahada Village was duped on 3rd August at Udaipur’s SBBJ bank ATM near collectorate. According to Meena, the suspect exchanged his ATM card while helping Meena to withdraw money.

Meena told police that he came to know about the theft when he came back to Udaipur on 12th Aug and tried to withdraw money from ATM. After trying multiple times, when the pin number was not getting accepted by the machine, he went to the nearest branch where he was informed that around two and a half lac rupees had been withdrawn from his account. The transactions were made from different places in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

In what seems to have transpired, Meena was finding it difficult to withdraw money out of the ATM. The suspect intervened and under the pretext of helping him got Meena to divulge his PIN number. The suspect then very cleverly foxed Meena by giving him someone else’s ATM card instead of his own.

In police investigation, it came out that the card Meena was given of was of some Vijay Kumar from Sagwada.

According to police, the modus operandi of the accused seems to be of exchanging stolen card of different victims one after the other.

Police also said that, while cheating Vijay Kumar, the accused handed him another card and stole Rs.9000 from Vijay’s account.

The accused appears to be around 25 years old. He had used ATM card for withdrawing cash as well as for shopping at Mount Abu, as per investigating Officer Mukesh Kumar.

The investigation is going on and police is trying to get video footage from ATM Booths.
