Brawl at Purbia Colony after death of 65-year-old man
The post-mortem of the dead body of a 65 year old retired man of Purbia colony of the city was finally conducted and his body was handed over to his family after he was attacked and killed by the people of Kalbelia community on Tuesday night.

The scene occurred on Tuesday when the victim Bhanwar lal Purbia (65) saw his son Gajendra been beaten by few people of Kalbelia community staying at the same area. When Bhanwar tried to intervene, the accused hit him on his head and sustained severe head injury. Along with Bhanwar few other neighbors including his wife also got injured and were rushed to the hospital in an attempt to save the victim from the accused however, Bhanwar succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital, said police.
The Purbia colony of Ambamata police station circle had turned into a battle ground when the accused started beating Gajendra Purbia over the demand of Rs.500. Other neighbors and Gajendra’s father Bhanwar Lal rushed to the scene after heard the screams of Gajendra, but the scene turned ugly after the death of Bhanwar lal.
Few minutes later the residents of the area started protesting over the incidence, demanded for the arrest of the accused and to demolish the houses of the Kalbelia community situated there. Soon a huge police force was deployed on the scene to control the situation but the protest continued for hours, Police added.
The residents of the Purbia colony claimed that accused had been living in the areas since last 20 years on an illegal acquired land. They further said that residents had intimated the administration about the situation but they didn’t take any step to remove the encroachments.
The annoyed people of Purbia colony staged a protest at the mortuary on Wednesday morning and denied the postmortem of the victim’s body until the encroachment was removed and compensation be given to the victim’s family. A huge number of police officers including AdSP Dr Rajesh Bhardwaj, DySP Gopal Singh Bhati and SHOs of four police stations along with their force rushed to the mortuary. The protestors also went at Collector’s office to meet the collector where it was learnt that one Kisan had got a stay from court for the land.
After putting hours of efforts the crowd let the postmortem of the dead body and said that they will apply under the Pidit Pratikaar Scheme for the compensation. On the other hand police has detained few suspected in relation with incidence whereas the hunt for other accused is still going on.
On the other hand a number of advocates including the Bar Association president Praveen Khandelwal also rushed to the hospital as Gajendra Purbia is an Advocate whereas his father was a retired senior clerk of Health department.
