Udaipur, December 30, 2024 - In a recent cybercrime incident, a fraudster created a fake social media profile impersonating Udaipur District Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal. The impostor targeted BJP District Minister Gajpal Singh Rathore, attempting to deceive him into purchasing furniture worth Rs 1.10 lakh.

The fraudster used the Collector's photograph as the profile image and initiated contact with Rathore, inquiring about his well-being and requesting his mobile number. Believing the message to be genuine, Rathore shared his contact details.

Subsequently, Rathore received a WhatsApp message from someone posing as 'Ashish Kumar,' allegedly a CRPF officer needing to sell furniture due to a transfer. Photos of the furniture were provided to make the scam appear legitimate.

Growing suspicious, Rathore contacted the real District Collector, who confirmed that he had not sent any such messages and identified the account as fraudulent. This timely verification prevented the fraud attempt.

This incident highlights the increasing prevalence of cybercrimes involving fake social media accounts impersonating officials to deceive the public. Authorities urge individuals to verify the authenticity of unsolicited messages, especially those requesting personal information or financial transactions.
