A 55 year old woman was targeted by 4 bikers on Tuesday who duped her off of her ornaments by posing as fake policemen.
The mishap occurred at UIT Bridge at 11 AM when the victim Aruna Doshi (55) was returning to her home from the temple when she was stopped by accused on two bikes posing as policemen. They asked her to put her ornaments weighing 600 gm into the bag, sternly referring of the numerous chain snatching incidences occurring in the city. The accused wrapped her ornaments in a scarf and moved away after handing over her the scarf, informed the police.
A few minutes later when the cloth was unwrapped, she found a brick in the place of her ornaments. The shocked woman informed her relatives about the mishap and later, a team of policemen rushed to the scene to take stock of the situation.
Barricading has been launched in the city at various city circles with an intention to catch the accused. Though the fake policemen have not been caught yet, the police has lodged an FIR against the accused and are taking help of the CCTV camera footage installed near one of the Handicraft showrooms situated in the area, added the police.
