A South African resident was arrested on production warrant from Jaipur Jail on Thursday by Surajpol police under the charge of getting Rs. 1.5 Lacs against fake traveler’s checks. Two of his accomplice women are still on run.

The accused Patrick James was arrested by Jaipur police on 10th January for presenting fake traveler’s checks. Arrested from the Hotel Daina Palace at Jaipur, he was sent under judicial custody by the court. The information of the same reached Surajpol police who was in search of the accused since 2011 under the charge of fraud against an agency of money transfer.

A team of Surajpol police rushed to Jaipur and arrested him under production warrant, said SHO Ramesh Kumar.

Kumar also informed that in 2011, victim Manoj Maheshwari who runs a franchise of Thomas Cook Ltd at Bhatiyani Chohatta and deals with money transfer had lodged an FIR against the 3 accused including 2 Korean women and James for fraudulent actions by giving him 2 fake traveler’s checks and raising Rs. 1.5 Lacs against them.

The accused were on run since then. Surprisingly the accused James himself came to Surajpol police to report of his stolen cash and camera. During interrogation it was found that James as a tourist was staying in India since 2011 and visited various cities during his stay. He holds a fake passport, howver the search for his identity is still on, informed SHO.

While talking further about the matter, SHO informed that the victim Manoj had lodged a complaint on 25th July 2011 which stated that 2 Korean women Manak Kitachi and Jaram Huh came to his agency and presented 2 checks which were fake. During the investigation, it was found that the 3 accused were staying at Hotel Kesar at Jagdish Chowk but before they could be nabbed, they fled from the city.

James was produced in the Udaipur court from where he was sent to police custody for a day. Police is now breaking him to extract more information about the number of incidences he was behind and also about his real identity, SHO Surajpol police station said.
