Cash and cheques worth thousands of rupees have been stolen from an insurance company located at Shakti Nagar. The incident occurred last night and was first discovered only today morning when the employees came for work and found the broken lock at main gate of the office.

According to police, the office of New India Assurance has been ransacked by thieves.

As per the statement given by Shyam Sunder Agrawal, Manager of the company, “the cash amounting to more than Rs. 40,000 and cheques worth Rs.50,000 were kept in separate boxes in the locker”.

Thieves, allegedly, tried to break open the locker, but, when unable to do so, they took away the locker with them. “The cash and cheques are the insurance premium amount collected from clients”, said Agrawal.

Bhopal Pura Police has lodged the case and started investigation. Prima facie, police doubts the involvement of someone known to the office.

Police said that there were no security guards or CCTV cameras installed in the office, however, two banks PNB and Andhra Bank are located close to the India Insurance building and they have guards, and so the incident of theft raises doubts.
