Initial investigations into last night’s Robbery in the Udaipur-Ratlam train suggests that it may not be the classical train robbery case picked right out of a Bollywood flick with gang men looting passengers with a gun to their forehead.
A report of robbery was lodged by the victim Bhavna Sharma, a resident of Sector 11, Hiran Magri. In her report Bhavna mentioned that around 1:45am, she was awoken from her sleep by some sound. She saw a young boy running away with her bag. On seeing this, she raised an alarm by shouting. Incidentally, the train was stationary at the time of the incident. People, nearby, started chasing the boy. Apparently the boy had a few other accomplices who started running when they saw the passengers chasing the boy. The culprit and his accomplice took refuge in the dark and fled after pelting stones on the passengers, hurting some.
Hanuman Prasad, Additional SP (Police HQ, Udaipur) said that initial investigations do not point towards involvement of any major gang. He however said that tampering of railway signal wires does point towards a pre-planned case.
Further, that Bhavna mentioned in her complaint that the boy was wearing a striped shirt acquits kachcha-baniyan in this particular case.
