The main accused of Rs.8 Lac robbery from the boot space of a car on 7 Oct was arrested by Surajpol Police today. Kaleem alias Kalu was absconding shortly after committing the crime while his associate Wajid was arrested earlier.

Police arrested Kalu from Udiapol Bus Stand when he was about to take a bus to Ahmedabad. Police has also found Rs.35000 cash from the accused. However the rest of the money is yet to be recovered.

Upon initial interrogation, Kalu told Police that on 7 Oct, he and his associate broke the boot space of the car from iron equipment and took Rs.8 Lac cash. It took them 10-15 minutes to open the boot space. He said that many people passing by saw them but no one reacted.

After committing the robbery Kalu fled away to Ajmer with his family while the co accused Wajid was nabbed within 24 hours of the crime.

The incident occurred outside a hotel at Gulab Bagh when Shrikant Jawar, left the cash in his car’s boot space and went inside the hotel to meet some guests. During interrogation, Kaleem also revealed that there were only Rs.4 Lac cash in the car. The victim Jhawar lied to police about the amount which he said Rs.8 Lac.
