The Udaipur police displayed efficiency after solving the murder mystery of the woman Meera, resident of Bhinder within 48 hours of the mishap and arrested duo accused of killing her.

With a number of cases registered under their names, accused Shanti Lal Kalbelia and Bansi Lal Kalbelia, both from Bhinder were arrested under suspicion who later admitted to having committed the crime with an intension of loot. The police during investigation found the victim’s footwear in their house and some pieces of bangles too, informed SP Rajendra Prasad Goyal.

The accused revealed that they had targeted the victim on 10^th July, abducted Meera from near her house, rushed her to Shanti Lal’s house, strangulated and snatched her ornaments. For the silver anklets, they cut off her feet and then dragged her body to a nearby well and disposed it there.

After committing the crime, the duo went to Bhinder Talab where they met Shamsher Khan for the mortgage of the ornaments as they were in ardent need of money. Shamsher who hails from Nimbahera introduced them to goldsmith Ranjeet Modi for exchange of cash, SP Goyal added.

After the mortgage of ornaments, the duo fled to different places for a hideout but the police team led by Ad SP Anant Kumar was able to track both of them down within 40-45 hours and arrested Shanti Lal from Akola village (Chittorgarh) and Bansi Lal from Sabla village (Dungarpur). Police was also able to recover 490 gm of silver from the accused. Police doubts both of them to be involved in two other similar incidences of women being attacked & killed for loot.

Police also learnt that Shanti Lal is the son of Bhamroo Kalbelia who was tied by the villagers as one of the suspects of the murder, SP said.

Police seized the diary from Ranjeet Modi’s shop and is verifying the role of Shamsher Khan in the entire episode of crime. On the other hand, effort of recovering the murder weapon is still on.
