Udaipur, Dec 07, 2025: Rajasthan Police have arrested a prolific film-maker from Mumbai, accused of defrauding an Udaipur businessman. As per Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal, Bhatt has been accused of defrauding Dr. Ajay Murdia of Udaipur. The fraud amounts to Rs 30 Crore as per the police and the FIR.
As per the Superintendent of Police, Yogesh Goyal, the police team apprehended the accused from Ganga Bhavan Apartments in the Yari Road area of Mumbai. It is reported that the apartment belongs to his sister-in-law. The Rajasthan Police will now apply for transit remand in the Bandra court to bring him to Udaipur.
As per the FIR filed at Bhupalpura Police station in Udaipur, a case was registered against Bhatt, based on a complaint filed by Dr. Ajay Murdia, owner of the Indira Group of Companies in Udaipur. Dr. Murdia filed an FIR on November 17 against the film-maker and eight others for fraud amounting to Rs 30 Crore. The complaint states that Dr. Murdia met Udaipur based film producer Dinesh during an event in Mumbai. Dinesh proposed making a biopic of Dr. Ajay Mudia's wife and claimed that the film would allow the entire country to learn about his wife's contributions.
Following this, a meeting was held on April 24, 2024, at Vrindavan Studio in Mumbai, where Dr. Murdia was introduced to the accused. During the meeting, an agreement was reached regarding the biopic, and it was decided that the accused would be solely responsible for making the film, and the businessman would only have to provide the funding.
The accused also mentioned during the conversation that his wife snd daughter were also involved in film production. He named his wife's firm as a partner in the project. A contract worth Rs 40 crore was finalized between them for two films, "Biopic" and "Maharana".
Subsequently, on May 31, 2024, Dr. Murdia transferred Rs 2.5 Crore to the accused via RTGS. A few days later, he was asked for another Rs 7 Crore, and it was claimed that four films would be made for Rs 47 Crore, which would generate a profit of approximately Rs. 100-200 Crore. Trusting the accused and his wife, Dr. Murdia also made online payments to the vendors they suggested. On July 2, 2024, Dr. Murdia registered Indira Entertainment LLP and made payments of approximately Rs. 3 Lakh from the firm's account. However, the entire deal soon began to appear suspicious, and Dr. Murdia realized he had been defrauded, after which an FIR was filed against 8 people.
The police have questioned several people in this case so far, and the investigation is expected to accelerate following the accused's arrest. The Rajasthan Police stated that other individuals involved will also be questioned if necessary.
