A man was arrested early this morning at around 3.30 AM with a 3 ft. long Sandalwood log from Court Chouraha. The accused is identified as Mohan Gameti, resident of Jai Samand.
During initial interrogation, Mohan told police that the precious wood log was cut and stolen from a temple premises at UIT Bridge.
ASI Mohammad Salim of Hathipol Police Station informed, “After receiving a tip, a police patrolling team followed the car which was driven by the accused Mohan. The chase started from UIT Bridge till Court Chouraha where the accused was arrested. The wood log and the car have been seized.”
Mohan also informed police that, he stole the sandalwood from Satyanarayan Temple with his associates who fled away on other vehicles. Receiving the information, police detained few more suspects and started interrogating them.
Police official Salim told media, “The accused Mohan is taken on remand till 22nd April. With this arrest, we hope to crack previous cases of sandalwood thefts that took place in different places around the city.”
