Over a dozen women thieves arrested from Jagannath Rath Yatra

Police arrested more than a dozen women and a minor girl for attempting chain snatching at the crowded procession of Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra yesterday. During the capture, the accused attacked two female police constables in which they received facial injuries.

Police arrested more than a dozen women and a minor girl for attempting chain snatching at the crowded procession of Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra yesterday. During the capture, the accused attacked two female police constables in which they received facial injuries.

All the accused women belong to New Delhi and are identified as Manju, Gayatri, Kavita, Uma, Rajni, Shanti, Pooja, Mary, Geeta and her 12 year old daughter. Besides these women, police also arrested two pick pocketers and two local women.

Hundreds of people took part in the annual procession of Lord Jagannath. The procession passed from narrow lanes of the old city area which was over crowded and taking advantage of this, the suspected thieves tried to snatch jewelries from the devotees.

All arrested are taken to Ghanta Ghar Police and later sent to the judicial custody.
