More than two dozen suspected drug addicts were arrested today in a joint operation of different police stations of the city. The police action was followed from the direction of Superintendent of Police Hari Prasad Sharma.

Police Stations of Surajpol, Ambamata, Ghantaghar and Hathipol has raided several places and arrested 27 people who are addicted of consuming drugs.

13 suspects were arrested from Surajpol Police Station area, while Police stations of Hathipol arrested 2 and Ghantaghar arrested  four suspects, 9 were arrested from Ambamata area. A small quantity of illicit drug (smack) was also seized from one of the accused.

The detainees are booked under section 151 CRPC.

According to a police official who doesn’t want to be named, today’s action was taken due to the rise in petty crime of burglary, theft and chain snatching. Police also suspect dopers might be involved in such crimes.

Among the 9 drug addicts arrested by Ambamata Police station one was elephant care taker.

Earlier it was mentioned joint activity of two police stations which was later corrected and added with two more police stations ( Hathipol and Ghantaghar) 

Total suspects were mentioned 22 which was rectified and changed to 27 suspects.
