Police make inroads into Temple Robbery as two persons are arrested

Lalit Meena, 22, resident of Balicha and Dinesh Meena, 20, resident of Sector 4 Hiran Magri were caught by a special team set up for this operation.

According to police, the duo had attempted to rob the Dev Narayan Temple at Tekri, but their attempt was not successful. When they were fleeing from the spot, a few devotees to the temple had noted their vehicle number and had notified the police. It was since then that the Police team was in vigilance for the culprits.

Two men were nabbed by the Surajpol Police yesterday in relation to the robberies being done at various temples of the district.

Lalit Meena, 22, resident of Balicha and Dinesh Meena, 20, resident of Sector 4 Hiran Magri were caught by a special team set up for this operation.

According to police, the duo had attempted to rob the Dev Narayan Temple at Tekri, but their attempt was not successful. When they were fleeing from the spot, a few devotees to the temple had noted their vehicle number and had notified the police. It was since then that the Police team was in vigilance for the culprits.

Since the time the team was formed, they had caught and interrogated more than a dozen suspects, and it was in these interrogations that the names of Lalit and Dinesh were confirmed.

On further interrogation after being caught, Lalit and Dinesh confessed to having stolen cash to the tune of Rs. 80,000 and other valuables from 38 temples all over the district including Lasadia, Bhindar, Kheroda, Ambamata, Pratap Nagar, Goverdhan Vilas, Hiran Magri , Dabok , Gogunda and Kesriyaji.

They even confessed to stealing from the famous Laxmi Temple at Bhatyani Chohata, Mittha Ram Temple at Kalaji Goraji and the Ganesh Temple opposite to Laxmi Temple at Bhatyani Chohata.

Lalit and Dinesh, on interrogation of their modus operandi, said that they were working as construction workers at various sites before they started their Temple hunting operations.

They used to recce various Temples of the district, identify the weak spots and easy hours and then go about breaching security and robbing the Temples. They also informed that two more persons are involved in these operations and are on the loose.

The robber duo have been taken to PC Remand and further interrogations are going on, while the Police is searching for the other two in parallel.
