Rs. 20000 withdrawn from hacked ATM account

An account was hacked in broad daylight at an ATM and Rs. 20000 cash was withdrawn in front of the victim.

The incident occurred at the SBBJ ATM booth outside the Collectorate at Udaipur yesterday evening at 6pm. Mohan Soni, the victim of the hacking, is the Incharge of the Election Office at the Collectorate. Yesterday evening, after completing his work, he went to the ATM outside the Collectorate, where two machines were installed.

A boy was standing on one of the machines and he told Mohan that the other machine was not working properly, so he should use the machine where the boy was standing.

Mohan punched his card into the ‘working’ machine and keyed in the password. Immediately, the boy told Mohan that the other machine had started functioning. Mohan went to the first machine and withdrew Rs. 15000 and left the ATM.

He felt suspicious of the boy and waited outside the ATM for 5 minutes, noticed the boy leaving and walked away. A few meters from the ATM, he got a message on his mobile that Rs. 20000 were withdrawn from his account. Mohan again rushed to the ATM but found no one there.

Mohan informed a known person in SBBJ and was asked to lodge an FIR.

The complaint has been lodged at the Bhopalpura Police station and the investigation has started. CCTV footage will be used to validate the matter and identify the culprit.
