The city women can now breathe a sigh of relief with police finally landing their hands on two bag snatchers. Given the increasing cases of chain and bag snatching, police had increased their vigil and was running a drive to get hold of the culprits. The two culprits were caught today as part of the drive and have accepted to many incidences of stealing bikes as well as snatching bags from women in different areas.

Hariprasad Sharma, S.P, had formed a special team for nabbing bag snatchers. This team included Anant Kumar, Dy SP West , Dayanand Saran , Dy SP East, Swati Sharma, Dy SP , Gyanendra Singh C.I Bhopalpura Police Station, Dariyad Singh, Head Constable and Raghuveer Singh, Devendra Singh , Banwari, Suresh Govind Singh and Sangram Singh, constables.

As part of the investigation exercise, Police got clues about the suspects, Surendra Singh and Murli Harijan. After tracing their whereabouts, the two were brought to Bhupalpura Police Station for interrogation. During interrogation both the suspects Surendra Singh and Murli Harijan broke down and accepted to committing bike theft and being involved in bag snatching. Both of them were booked under charges of theft and bag snatching and arrested, said Hariprasad Sharma.

The duo revealed that they first stole a bike from Madhuban Area and then used the bike for snatching a bag containing Cash and mobile phone from a woman in front of Lotus Showroom at Bhopalpura on 12.07.13. They also accepted snatching a bag from a Lady at New Ashok Vihar area of Sukher. The other case that the duo has accepted committing is of stealing a bike from Delhi Gate area and then using it for snatching bag of a woman going on scooter at Maya Misthan on 22.06.13.

The accused further informed that they started their activities in Udaipur in the month of February when they snatched the bag of a lady at New Ashok Nagar on 19.02.13. Surendra Singh is a resident of 17 Ganesh Nagar Payda and used to drive taxi on normal days. Murli is a resident of Khempura and drives autorikshaw. As per Hariprasad Sharma, both are history-sheeters at Pratapnagar Police Station.

Police is continuing their interrogation and trying to recover the cash and bikes stolen by the duo.
