Truck Driver jumps off bridge post RTO inspection, found dead

A dead body of a truck driver was found under the Debari Bridge on Wednesday morning whose relatives blamed the RTO team saying that the man jumped off the bridge in an attempt to escape from their clutches.

 

A dead body of a truck driver was found under the Debari Bridge on Wednesday morning whose relatives blamed the RTO team saying that the man jumped off the bridge in an attempt to escape from their clutches. He was carrying a consignment of sand towards Udaipur from Rail Magra and was stopped by the RTO team at Debari on Tuesday night for inspection.

Villagers in huge numbers and relatives blocked the NH 76 after the incidence came in light blaming the RTO team. The relatives of the deceased victim Manohar Singh Rajput blamed the RTO team for allegedly beating him after which in an order to escape, the victim jumped off the bridge and died after sustaining multiple head injuries.

After postmortem, the annoyed villagers reached outside the RTO office with the dead body and protested, demanding compensation and job to family members of the victim, informed one of the relatives.

The scene turned ugly after the relatives and villagers blocked the NH 76 after the incidence and the traffic remained affected for over 3 hours. The President of Sand Association of Udaipur Nathe Khan informed that he had received about the inspection check by the RTO team at Debari and suddenly the team started claiming that the truck was overloaded with sand gravels and manhandled the victim. The victim tried to escape, during which he fell off from the bridge.

Khan added that any truck carrying sand cannot be penalized by the Department within the limits of 20 Km of city’s boundary so how the RTO team can penalize one in the name of truck overload.

Regional Transport Officer Bhanwar Lal while talking to media said that he will thoroughly investigate the matter and verify team’s involvement in the case. However, till now it is not clear whether it was inspection carried out by his team or of another department. According to some, the incidence took place on Tuesday night while others claiming to have taken place on Wednesday morning.
