Two men from Bichiwada police station circle of Dungarpur died after falling in an unfenced well during an attempt to escape from cops patrolling in the area on Monday night. One of the friends of the deceased man survived as he hid himself at the farmhouse. Later on Tuesday morning a mob of villagers gathered on the scene and started demanding compensation for the family of the victims.

The mishap occurred in the wee hours (3.30 am) on Monday at Atarsumba village of Dungarpur when 2 out of three bike borne villagers fell down in an unfenced well of a farm situated in the village and died.

The trio of friends identified as Rajendra, Jitendra and Jitendra were exiting their village on their bike and were spotted by the night patrolling team of cops. When the cops asked them to stop for the verification, they tried to flee but after a chase the trio left their bikes on the road and entered into a farm house.

Two of the victims, Rajendra and Jitendra could not see the open well and fell into it, resulting in their death. Another friend Jitendra somehow managed to escape from the farmhouse, said SP Anil Kumar Jain.

According to SP the dead bodies of the victims were pulled out from the well and another victim Jitendra was found after few hours. However, the scene turned ugly after a huge number of villagers gathered, protesting for the demand of compensation for the victim’s family. They also insisted the bodies to be buried there and not be sent to the mortuary.

SP added, “We are trying to convince people to shift the dead bodies from the scene. We also informed the villagers about the postmortem being conducted by the Medical Board and an FIR to be lodged for thorough investigation. The effort by the police to maintain law and order in the area is still in process.”
