In a freak incident that occurred today evening, two under trial prisoners attempted to flee from police custody while they were being shifted from barracks at Udaipur District Court to a bus transporting prisoners to Central Jail.

The incident took place when all prisoners were getting shifted to the bus from temporary barracks. 46 prisoners were there.

Accused prisoners who were identified as Raju Ram and Mangi Lal (Both under trials prisoners and belong to Bhinder) managed to escape from police custody and fled away.

Both ran towards the main road but caught by police guards and advocates. One of the accused Mangilal reached till DP Jewelers. One policeman received minor injuries in the mishap.

Prisoner 1: Raju Ram, jumped 10 ft down from the chambers no 57-58 located on first floor of the court’s one of the buildings. He directly landed on the main gate of the court and was about to proceed towards the road but captured by a guard Bansilal Meena with the help of locals and advocates present there.

Prisoner 2: Mangilal rushed towards the passage where chambers of advocates are located. He jumped on the road and started running towards DP Jewelers. Mangilal jumped off to an empty plot where a police guard Bhanwarlal Meena who was also following him jumped over Mangilal and caught him.

Bhanwarlal Meena received minor leg injuries in the mishap. The prisoners were shifted to Central Jail.

Raju alias Rajya is lodged in Jail from Jan 2013 whereas Mangilal alias Mangya, resident of Bhinder is lodged since May 2013, both are under trail for robbery.
