A woman blamed of committing the murder of her nephew was stripped, black painted her face and was paraded in the entire village on a donkey’s back. This appalling incident happened on Saturday 8th Nov at a remote village Thuravad in Rajsamand district.

The Rajsamand police arrested 39 people, including two women. On Monday, all the accused were produced in front of the court. 4 of them were taken on PC remand and the rest were detained under 151 CRPC and sent to judicial custody.

The Panchayat took hold of the entire situation and wrongly blamed the woman for killing her nephew. An FIR was lodged by the victim woman’s husband after which the cops came in action and took the matter into their supervision for further investigation. Towards the end of the night, 39 people were arrested, including 2 women. Later in the night, the mentally shocked victim was shifted to a shelter house.

During the investigation it was found that the nephew Vardi Singh had committed suicide on 2nd November and his family members accused the victim responsible for his death.

Sweta Dhankar, SP (Rajsamand District) said, “The matter went into the hands of the local Panchayat where it was decided that the case would be heard openly. Following the meeting,  the Panchayat accused woman for killing her nephew and a strict decision was taken to punish her.”

Upon investigating the entire scenario, the police informed that the woman was stripped off her clothes in front of all the villagers. The Panchayat members painted her face black and forced her to sit on a donkey’s back to parade in the entire village. The abuses and insults carried out for around an hour.

Seeing the sensitivity of the situation, a huge police force was deployed at the scene and 39 people were arrested.
