CBSE Makes 75% Attendance Mandatory for Class 10-12 Board Exams
As per CBSE strict guidelines, only special cases may get up to 25% relaxation in attendance rules; schools must maintain monthly attendance records
Dec 3, 2025 - CBSE has made it mandatory for Class 10 and 12 students to have 75% attendance in order to appear for the Board examinations. Students with attendance below this requirement will not be allowed to sit for the exams.
CBSE has issued official instructions regarding attendance, saying that students must complete a minimum of 75% attendance. It has kept a provision to grant up to 25% relaxation in attendance only under special circumstances. These include medical emergencies, participation in national-level sports and other serious and justified reasons. In such cases, students will receive relaxation only after submitting valid supporting documents.
CBSE has directed all affiliated schools across its regions to maintain attendance records of students and update them every month. Additionally, class teachers and school authorities must sign the attendance register to ensure authenticity.
As per its strict guidelines, CBSE has said that if it is observed at the time of sudden inspection of schools that students are absent without proper leave records, it will be presumed that they are not attending school regularly and may be treated as non-attending/dummy candidates. In such cases, CBSE shall not allow such students to appear in the Board exams.
The Class 10 and 12 Board exams will begin from February 17, 2026, with Class 10 exams concluding on March 10 and Class 12 exams ending on April 9.
