Udaipur, June 23, 2025 – The Rajasthan Panchayati Raj and Secondary Teachers’ Union has written a letter to the State Education Minister and the Director of Elementary Education saying that, before the start of the new academic session, the entry age for Grade 1 in government schools be reduced from six years to five years.

District General Secretary Kamlesh Sharma and Badgaon Block president Prem Singh Bhati said that last year, the minimum age for admission to Grade 1 was increased to six years. As a result, thousands of children from rural areas were left out of school admissions and overall enrollment numbers declined.

The letter also mentioned that the State Government deposits various grants each year into SDMC accounts of PEEO (Primary Education Officer) schools. These funds typically arrive around December. Therefore, the union has also requested that the grant be deposited by July, so it can be used effectively at the start of the academic year.
