UdaipurTimes, Nov 7, 2026 - In a special initiative aimed at developing foundational literacy and numeracy skills among young children at the early education level, the Rajasthan government has introduced a new assessment system under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

As per the directions of the Rajasthan School Education Council, the Holistic Progress Card has been implemented for the 2026–27 academic session in Balvatikas (pre-primary sections) operating in Mahatma Gandhi Government English Medium Schools across the State.

Kunj Bihari Bhardwaj, Additional District Project Coordinator (ADPC) of Samagra Shiksha, Udaipur, informed that a total of 1,123 students across 30 Balvatikas in Udaipur district will benefit from this assessment system. The primary objective of the progress card is to provide continuous, comprehensive and holistic assessment of children's development.

Grading System
ADPC Bhardwaj explained that instead of the traditional numerical marking system, children's performance will now be recorded through three grades: A, B and C.

  • Grade A: Awarded to children who can perform tasks independently or demonstrate the expected level of competency.
  • Grade B: Awarded to children who can complete tasks with teachers' assistance or demonstrate an intermediate level of understanding.
  • Grade C: Awarded to children who require special assistance from teachers or demonstrate a basic level of understanding.

The progress card will serve as a comprehensive reflection of each child's 360-degree development. Continuous assessment will be conducted across seven key developmental dimensions:

  • Physical development
  • Social and emotional development
  • Development of good habits
  • Positive learning habits
  • Language development
  • Creative development
  • Intellectual and mental development

Online Entries

In-charge APC Rajendra Prasad Nayak informed that detailed guidelines have been issued to teachers for preparing the progress cards.
Three summative assessments will be conducted during the academic year — SA-1, SA-2 and SA-3. Student-wise assessment records must be entered online through the staff login section of the Shala Darpan portal. At the end of the academic session, a certified, coloured copy of the Holistic Progress Card, printed on glossy paper, will be provided to students and their parents

Health Details Recorded
The initial pages of the progress card will include general information about the school and student, along with details of the child's physical development. These health-related details will be recorded in coordination with the Medical and Health Department and will include:

  • Height and weight (recorded at the beginning and end of academic session)
  • Hearing ability
  • Vision
  • Blood group

Additionally, a dedicated My Interests section will record each child's favourite games, songs, fruits and sweets.

Responsibilities Assigned

Responsibilities have been assigned at every level to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative. School principals have been instructed to regularly monitor assessment entries and prepare action plans to improve areas where students show limited academic progress. District and block-level education offices will also conduct continuous reviews of the programme to ensure effective implementation and make certain no child is left behind.
