Priority 1 category will be NRI candidates or children of NRIs; priority 2 category will be candidates who are first-degree or second-degree relatives of NRIs

Aug 8, 2025 - The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has made several changes to the policy for admission to MBBS seats under the NRI (Non-Resident Indian) quota for the All India Quota (AIQ) National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET UG 2025 counselling.

The biggest change is that the allotment of NRI quota seats in the All India 15% MBBS-BDS counselling will now be done based on priority. MCC has issued a notification and prepared two levels of priority.

Priority 1 category will be candidates who themselves are NRIs or children of NRIs. The priority 2 category will be candidates who are first-degree or second-degree relatives of NRIs.

Allotment of seats, says the MCC, will be first for Priority 1 candidates and then Priority 2 candidates, subject to the availability of seats.

First round of counselling is already in process. Seat allotment result for this round will be announced by MCC tomorrow, August 9 following which candidates can start reporting for admissions until August 18.
