April 22, 2026 - The Rajasthan Education Department has lifted the ban on the use of passbooks in government schools. Instructions issued in 2018 to limit the use of passbooks and to ensure the use of only textbooks and certified reference books have now been withdrawn. Along with this, the restriction on carrying passbooks to schools has also been removed.

This decision was taken in compliance with the order of a petition filed in the High Court, Jaipur.

Based on the letter dated March 17, 2026, from the Legal Cell of Secondary Education, Joint Legal Advisor, Jaipur, the compliance of old instructions has been stopped and they have been withdrawn. Along with this, the related orders dated March 13, 2018, have also been declared ineffective.

Earlier, in its issued order, the Department had considered the use of passbooks in schools as an obstacle to the quality of education and had given instructions to control it.
