Govt Warns Against Negligence in School Construction
Construction is underway for approximately 290 new school buildings, 599 major repair works and 2,099 classrooms across Rajasthan
Sept 8, 2026 - Rajasthan government has issued strict directives regarding construction and repair work of school buildings in the State underling the fact that any negligence related to that would be dealt with sternly. This was conveyed by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the School Education Department, Rajesh Yadav during a review meeting on Monday, September 7, through video conference at the Government Secretariat in Jaipur.
At present, construction is underway for approximately 290 new school buildings, 599 major repair works and 2,099 classrooms across Rajasthan. Works worth approximately Rs 3,037.21 crore have already been approved through various schemes and convergence initiatives against proposed works worth Rs 2,021.25 crore for FY 2026-27. These include 1,293 new school buildings, 5,348 major repair works and 9,334 new/additional classrooms.
With regard to serious prima facie negligence in supervision of an ongoing construction at a government school in Nagaur district, ACS Yadav ordered immediate suspension of the concerned junior engineer.
Additionally, the ACS conducted a detailed review of the progress of key departmental schemes including PM-JANMAN, various phases of the PM SHRI scheme, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SMSA) and the STARS project, plus the construction of vocational rooms and hostels.
Progress on works approved under State Budget announcements - such as the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) - and initiatives to develop District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) as Centres of Excellence was also reviewed. The implementation status of the 2026-27 Action Plan was also discussed.
