Rajasthan to Invest Rs 3,000 Cr This Year on School Infrastructure
Action plan of Rs 12,335.90 crore proposed for strengthening school infrastructure from 2026-27 to 2030-31
Sept 1, 2026 - A high-level review meeting was held on Tuesday, September 1, at the Government Secretariat in Jaipur under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary V Srinivas to assess compliance with the directions issued by the Jaipur Bench of the Rajasthan High Court on August 11, 2026, in DB Civil Writ Petition No. 11613/2025. The meeting reviewed department-wise progress and compliance regarding safe infrastructure, toilets, sanitation and drinking water facilities in educational institutions across Rajasthan.
The Chief Secretary said student safety is the top priority of the State Government and that no dilapidated or unsafe school building or classroom should be used. He directed the concerned departments to take coordinated and time-bound action to ensure safe buildings and essential basic facilities in all educational institutions.
Srinivas laid special emphasis on the availability of drinking water in schools and instructed that every school must have a tap connection or an adequate alternative drinking water arrangement, along with regular testing of water quality. He also directed that adequate and clean toilets, regular cleaning and maintenance and proper drainage facilities be ensured in schools. He said these facilities should also be ensured in all educational institutions, other than schools.
Additional Chief Secretary, School Education, Rajesh Yadav said that a technical survey of 65,308 government schools across the State identified 3,768 dilapidated school buildings and 83,783 dilapidated classrooms. The use of such buildings has been prohibited and safe, alternative arrangements made.
He informed that an action plan of Rs 12,335.90 crore has been proposed for strengthening school infrastructure from 2026-27 to 2030-31. Details are:
- Rs 2,487.75 crore for 3,587 new school buildings
- Rs 1,129.45 crore for major repairs in 22,589 schools
- Rs 8,378.30 crore for new classrooms in place of 83,783 dilapidated classrooms
- Rs 340.40 crore for rennovation of 13,616 dilapidated toilets
An investment of Rs 3,000 crore will be made this year towards strengthening school infrastructure.
