“This program will help them (students) in getting familiar with the village life and challenges faced by villagers” – Avinash Chetanya, Media Cell – IIM Udaipur

Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur (IIM-U) has been leading the pack of premier management institutes in the country, in terms of research for the last 3 years now.  Adding another identity to their cap, the students of the institute took up a research program on 13th February, to identify resource and infrastructure scarcity in tribal villages.

This program, a part of their subject, ‘Rural Immersion’, will have 190 students visiting 35 villages around Udaipur, stay in those villages for a period of one week and carry out their research activities.  The reports prepared by them will consist of infrastructure and resource scarcity situations faced by these villagers, which will then be submitted to a NGO working towards this means, said Avinash, the Media In-Charge at IIM Udaipur.

He further said that students of IIM-U come from diverse backgrounds and are often not aware of the ground realities of the villages and tribal areas.  This alignment will help the research in terms of a outsider approach and will also on the other hand give the students an understanding of real life situations in rural areas and forest areas.

The stay and other facilities for the students will be facilitated by the local NGOs, while the funding will be taken care of by IIM-U, added Avinash.
