Strict CBSE Rule: Board to Appoint External Examiners for Practicals
CBSE releases strict 27-page SOP for 2026 practical exams; External Examiners mandatory, strict SOP for labs, marking, video recording
Dec 2, 2025 - A major update has been issued regarding the practical examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The Board has released a 27-page detailed guideline and SOP for the Class 10 and 12 practical exams to be held between January 1 and February 14, 2026.
For Class 12, practical exams will now be conducted only in the presence of External Examiners officially appointed by CBSE. Their presence, signatures and complete documentary proof of lab records must be properly maintained. No school will have the authority to call local or self-appointed alternative examiners.
According to the guidelines, the examinations will be conducted under strict supervision, a fixed timetable and a zero-flexibility policy. The Board has instructed that every stage — including lab preparation, experiment procedures, internal marking and video recording — must be completed strictly in accordance with the prescribed SOP.
Students participating in national and international sports competitions will also not be given any special dates or alternative practical exam schedules. The Board has clarified that those students’ practical exams must also be held on the scheduled date, and no changes to the timetable will be permitted.
