"Sinner" created a new record by securing 16 nominations for the 2026 academy awards, the maximum by any single movie till date. "Sinner" was closely followed by "One Battle After Another" who secured 13 nominations, one short of the previous record holders for 14 nominations, which include 'All About Eve' (1950 | 23rd Academy Awards); 'Titanic' (1997 | 70th Academy Awards) and 'La La Land' (2016 | 89th Academy Awards). Interestingly, both the movies, viz. 'Sinner', which grossed $368 millions in tickets sales and 'One Battle After Another' that grossed @206 million in ticket sales are Warner Bros productions. The Warner Bros studios is a hot cake for Netflix and Paramount Skydance, who are actively competing to purchse the studio. As per media reports, Hollywood personaities have been silent about troubled US politics in the past couple of years, to avoid being targetted by the ruling party and their followers. However, with the support lent by the film fraternity to these two movies, the former an apologue on racism and cultural appropriation and the latter, revolving around rising fascism and societal division. The presentation ceremony for the 98th Academy Awards will take place on March 15, 2026 amd will be hosted by Conan O'Brien who makes a much awaited comeback.
