Details of the Cheque Bounce Case
Rajpal Yadav was earlier asked to surrender at Tihar Jail on February 6, 2026, in connection with this long-running case. He remained in jail until he was granted interim bail on February 16, which is valid till March 18, 2026.
The case goes back to 2010 when he borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to produce his directorial debut film, Ata Pata Laapata. The film failed at the box office, and he could not repay the loan. This led to legal action under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Over time, with interest and penalties, the total amount increased to nearly Rs 9 crore.
