Vijay-Rashmika Reunite for Rahul Sankrityan’s Historical Epic Ranabaali

January 27, 2026: Filmmaker Rahul Sankrityan is in the news after the makers of Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s upcoming film, VD 14, officially announced its title as Ranabaali, along with the release date. The announcement quickly gained attention, especially because Rahul Sankrityan is directing the film.

Ranabaali, directed by Rahul Sankrityan, stars Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles. The two actors are also reported to be engaged in real life. The film is set in 19th-century India and is based on real historical events that took place between 1854 and 1878.

Along with the title announcement, the team released a powerful first-look video that introduces the world of Ranabaali. The video shows the harsh reality of British rule and the struggles caused by colonial policies and officials. According to the press release, the first look sets the stage for the rise of a legendary hero from what is called a “cursed land.”

Lead cast and characters

Vijay Deverakonda appears in a fierce and powerful role as Ranabaali, with a completely new look. Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma in the film. International actor Arnold Vosloo appears as the main villain, Sir Theodore Hector.

Rahul Sankrityan and the team behind Ranabaali

Director Rahul Sankrityan is well known for films like Taxiwaala and Shyam Singha Roy, which helped establish him as a successful director. His earlier work also includes The End. With Ranabaali, he steps into a large historical story, adding an important film to his career.

Ranabaali marks the third collaboration between Vijay Deverakonda and production house Mythri Movie Makers, led by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar, after Dear Comrade and Khushi. It is also the second time Vijay Deverakonda and Rahul Sankrityan are working together after Taxiwaala. The film also brings Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna back on screen after Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.

The music for the film is composed by Ajay-Atul, and it is presented by T-Series.

Ranabaali is set to release worldwide on September 11, 2026.
